The popular Ford Escape nSport Utility was introduced with much fanfare, and offers up another exciting line up for 2002. Four models are available: Escape XLS Sport Utility, Escape XLS 4WD Sport Utility, Escape XLT Sport Utility, and Escape XLT 4WD Sport Utility.
Each of the Ford Escape Sport Utility vehicles has a spacious interior that easily seats five passengers, and a convenient rear lift gate and four doors.
At the start of the line up, the Ford Escape XLS Sport Utility is built with a four-cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection, 127 horsepower, and 135 lbs-ft of torque. It has the ability to tow approximately 3,500 lbs.
The front wheel drive Escape XLS Sport Utility has five-speed manual transmission, and automatic is available as an option. Each vehicle is equipped with all-season SBR tires, and the fuel economy rating checks in at 23/28 (city/hwy).
Safety standards cover all the essential bases, including a driver depowered air bag, passenger depowered air bag, and child safety locks in the rear, and front head restraints. Options are listed as ABS brakes and side impact air bags.
Moving along to comforts and conveniences, the Ford Escape XLS Sport Utility features air conditioning, a keyless entry system, power door locks, dual power mirrors, and power windows. An AM/FM stereo with CD player is standard, and the rear seat folds down to create more space when you need it.
Cruise control and a theft deterrent system are both available as packages.
Next up is the Ford Escape XLS 4WD Sport Utility, which takes the impressive base model and adds to it the versatility of four-wheel on-demand drive for tough roads and challenging weather conditions.
Third for 2002 is the front wheel drive Ford Escape XLT Sport Utility, which takes all of the entry-level model’s specifications and rolls in a six-cylinder engine that pumps out 201 horsepower and 196 lbs-ft of torque.
ABS brakes, cruise control, theft deterrent system, and front fog lights become standards; and transmission is automatic. The Escape XLT Sport Utility is finished in exquisite style with soft leather seating.
The Ford Escape XLT 4WD Sport Utility mirrors the many performance, safety, and luxury of the previous vehicle and tags on four-wheel on-demand drive once again.
